You haven't added the version of ESXi you're using, but drivers for the series should ship with vSphere 5. I had to do something similar. Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top.

Shouldn't you just care if the drive is good or bad? ESXi is not a general purpose operating system. Things are not always good or bad. There are times when they are in between. We had experiences in the past where some of the disks were sluggish RAID controller didn't indicate so and smart data helped us diagnose it.
I am also using 5. Kyle Kyle 4 4 bronze badges.I'm running vmware ESXi 5. It's been running pretty great for about 2 years, but I've started having problems with sloppy storage performance and constant "performance has deteriorated.
T data, how would I know which disk to replace? I've installed SMIS providers from LSI, so I can see that my storage array and disks are "good" in the health monitor, but that kinda helps me jack shit.
I've spam-searched Google for an answer, but it just seems like getting S. T data from a raid controller is not possible on ESXi, even though smartmontools is able to get the info on Linux, so LSI clearly provides the data. Surely there must be a solution to this problem. Would it somehow be possible to install smartmontools on ESXi? That would be the best solution I think.
I'm seriously considering passing the raid controller through to a Linux guest and mount the datastore through iSCSI, just so that I can get smartmontools to monitor my disks Though it just seems like so much effort for something so simple!
I think for LSI-controllers some extra option in linux-kernel must be activated, and even this does not work with all LSI-like controllers. I'm not sure this ability is included in vm. Oh well, that sucks. Really disappointed that vmware doesn't support getting S. T information from raid controllers. Seems like such a essential feature to monitor the health of your storage array.?
It only takes a minute to sign up. Then I should be able to use a bash script to monitor the hard disk status and send alert emails if something went bad. It's a component, but modern RAID controllers use it along with other methods to determine drive and array health.
Once installed, you can use the omreport command to get information about your array. For example, to see the first disk in the array:. The accepted answer recommends the audacity that is yum install srvadmin-all. Here's how to make it slightly less blecch-y but still blecch-y nonetheless; you can get much leaner on HP's platform.
But I digress By this I mean, only install those components necessary to manage storage on your machine. BTW, the direct answer to the user's question lies in the item "Show physical disks on vdisk 0" in the list below. I have yet to try it, however. This needs to be repeated for each enclosure slot, or at least I haven't found a way to print all of it at once with a single perccli command.
LSI have a utility called sas2ircu which I found quite useful, there is also a version for Windows and Linux. Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top. I am a minimalist. Xianlin, this is not entirely true. Yes, it will install a lot of garbage but see my answer. I didn't want to add unnecessary packages so I figured out only the ones I needed for storage.

Brand Representative for Veeam Software. You may need to restart to see the logs from when the card initializes. There is a bunch of info it presents that's not showing up in the log you posted. That log is after I rebooted the box.
Are you referring to a different log? Are there log level settings that I'm not aware of? Tools, Monitor Configure Alerts - I suspect it's not logging everything.Как создать RAID массив в MegaRAID Storage Manager
I'm looking at my and at each reboot I have entries for each drive being initialized, array status, every time I've logged into the utility and a number of things like that.
It only changes how you are notified unless I'm mistaken. Your logs aren't showing everything or the events have scrolled, etc. In "Configure Alerts" above I'd go into "Change Individual Events" and click to set to defaults to make sure everything is getting logged. I'd then clear the event log and reboot.
If it's throwing an error it definitely should be in the log.
You should be seeing many more events that your snapshot above indicates - on boot you'll see the firmware version, battery status, each drive initialize, etc.
The 'Needs attention' status never returned after the first reboot. Also, after reboot, I did see more entries in the log without changing any settings. Don't know what caused the hiccup but all seams fine now.

Installation worked fine, I have access to everything, all is working Except 2 things:. When I was on vSphere 6. I have no idea what else I can do. I know it's an old card, but I got it for cheap. Any idea how can I get this fixed? You may require to contact their support for details. I just ran into this problem after upgrading from 6.
That really pisses me off. My raid card reports supporting 6. Nope, not if the LSI provider functionality is no longer supported. Search "LSIprovider" on the compatibility check page to see the 6. Search your raid card again, and see it probably says 6. Unfortunately, when I discovered this and found the instructions to rollback to previous version, both bootbanks say they are 6. So now I'll have to reinstall ESXi 6. I really, really hate it when hardware and feature deprecation happens in a point release like this.

Going to v7. Going from 6. It complained about my 10G nics possibly not being supported in 6. Any way to find out if they are working on one? The existing working 6. Let's say you install Windows 10 and the driver works for several years just fine. Then you upgrade Windows 10 to an anniversary update and not only does the existing driver stop working, but it stops working for good.
Everyone gets rightfully mad at Microsoft. The rebuild is a fully automatic process, so it is not necessary to issue a Rebuild command. You can monitor the progress of drive rebuilds in the Group Show Progress window.
A RAID 6 virtual drive can survive two failed drives. A RAID 60 virtual drive can survive two failed drives in each span in the drive group. The failed drive must be replaced, and the data on the drive must be rebuilt on a new drive to restore the system to fault tolerance.
You can choose to rebuild the data on the failed drive if the drive is still operational. If dedicated hot spares or global hot spare disks are available, the failed drive is rebuilt automatically without any user intervention. A yellow circle appears to the right of the icon of the virtual drive that uses this drive which indicates that the virtual drive is in a degraded state; the data is still safe, but data could be lost if another drive fails.
A new drive in JBOD drive state is exposed to the host operating system as a stand-alone drive. The operating system can install and run anything on JBOD drives. Automatic rebuilds always occur when the drive slot status changes, for example, when you insert a drive or remove a drive, so that a hot spare can be used. Rebuilds start on Unconfigured Good drives only.
After you set the drive state to Unconfigured Good, the drive state information always remains on the drive, and you can use the drive for configuration. If a drive is currently part of a redundant configuration and you want to use it in another configuration, you can use the MegaRAID Storage Manager commands to remove the drive from the first configuration and change the drive state to Unconfigured Good.

To remove the drive from the configuration without harming the data on the virtual drive, follow these steps:. If this situation occurs, you must remove the drive and replace it. You cannot make the drive usable for another configuration by using the Mark physical disk as missing command and the Rescan commands. You may sometimes need to remove a non-failed drive that is connected to the controller. For example, you may need to replace the drive with a larger drive.
Follow these steps to remove a drive safely:. If you change your mind, select Undo Prepare for Removaland click Go. To avoid data loss because of dirty cache on the controller, the utility forces the virtual disks into Write Through mode after a firmware upgrade.
It is in this mode until the server reboots. In Write Through mode, the controller sends a data transfer completion signal to the host when the disk subsystem has received all of the data in a transaction. This way, in case of a power outage, the controller does not discard the dirty cache. The following sections describe how to start and use the MSM program:.

The left panel of the MSM window displays either the Physical view or the Logical view of the host server and the devices, depending on which tab you select. TABLE shows the icons that appear in the left panel to represent the controllers, disk drives, and other devices:. Degraded state -- A yellow LED indicates that the device is running in a degraded state. For example, the yellow LED next to virtual disk indicates that it is running in a degraded state because a disk drive has failed.
Device failure -- A red LED indicates that the device has failed. For example, the red LED next to disk drive icon indicates that it has failed. The lower part of the MSM window displays the system event log entries.
New event log entries appear during the session. Each entry has a timestamp and date, an error level indicating the severity of the event, and a brief description of the event.
